The
Sun is a star located in the center of the
Solar System.
Earth and all the other
planets in the Solar System orbit around it. The minor planets,
comets, meteoroids, and all the interplanetary medium in between also orbit the Sun. Being the closest star to Earth (150 million km away), it is also the brightest star in the sky. . Their presence or absence in heaven determines day and night, respectively. The energy radiated by the Sun is harnessed by photosynthetic beings, which constitute the base of the food chain. Thus, it is the main source of energy for life. It also provides the energy that keeps climatic processes running.
