Interplanetary Exploration
Quaoar, officially (50000) Quaoar, is a small body of the Solar System, discovered in 2002 by Mike Brown and Chad Trujillo. It has a single satellite, called Weywot (discovered in 2007). The existence of previous observations allowed us to calculate its orbit and catalog it. The name of Quaoar has its origin in the name of the force of creation worshiped by the Tongva tribe, the original settlers of the region where Los Angeles is located today. It has a diameter of 1,100 km and belongs to the Kuiper Belt. It is a candidate object to be considered a dwarf planet.
