Immanuel Kant (Königsberg, 1724 / Königsberg, 1804) was a Prussian philosopher and scientist of the Enlightenment. He was the first and foremost representative of criticism and the forerunner of German idealism. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers in modern Europe and universal philosophy. In the field of astronomy, he proposed the Nebular Theory as the genesis of the Solar System: he assumed (correctly) that the Solar System had been born from a cloud of gas that had been contracting until it was concentrated in a number of bodies that they would be the Sun, the planets, the satellites and other bodies of the Solar System. Pierre-Simon Laplace would expand on this theory. He also assumed that the tides were responsible for slowing down the rotation of the Earth.
