Haumea, officially (136108) Haumea, is a dwarf planet that lies beyond the orbit of Neptune, in the Kuiper Belt. It was named in honor of the Hawaiian goddess of birth. Haumea has the typical orbit of a Kuiper belt object, with an orbital period of 283 years, a perihelion of 35 AU and an orbital tilt of 28°. It passed the aphelion in early 1992, and in late 2014 it was 50,7 AU from the Sun. Its eccentric orbit takes it up to a distance from the Sun of 35 AU, closer than the average distance from Pluto, which is 39 AU. It has two satellites, called Namaka and Hi'iaka.
